Assistant Accountant

Hours: Full Time – 37.5 (flexibility required)
Salary: Salaried (based on skills and competencies)
Reports to: Company Accountant

Job Background:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Finance team in the new role of Assistant Accountant. The successful candidate will provide up to date, timely and accurate financial accounting support and guidance to the site management team. Data analysis and key financial reporting relating to product costing and general accounting is a fundamental responsibility of the Assistant Account.

The Role:

Duties include (but are not limited to):

General Accounting

  • Month/Year end accounting
  • Sales and Purchase Ledger reconciliation
  • Assist with supplier payments
  • Post Month end Journals
  • Calculation and posting of accruals and prepayments
  • Bank Allocation and reconciliation
  • Produce and review Aged debt report
  • Credit Control
  • Cover for Purchase ledger and Sales ledger when on Annual leave
  • Assist with the Preparation of quarterly VAT returns
  • Providing financial support to other departments
  • Ensure spend is in line with budgets and reviewing variances
  • Produce Work in progress reports
  • Support Company Accountant / Head of Finance as required
  • Assisting with external audit preparation

Product Costing

  • Develop and maintain the cost accounting system.
  • Analyse costs of raw materials.
  • Establish standard costs and update them as appropriate
  • Review and update the overhead rate to be included within the standard cost model template
  • Material Variance analysis
  • Analyse any changes in goods or services provided in order to determine what effect it has on the cost
  • Analyse manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
  • Make estimates of new and proposed product costs
  • Provide management with reports that specify and compare factors that affect prices and profitability of products or services

We are looking for someone with the following personal attributes, skills and competencies:

  • Excellent MS Office skills, specifically Excel
  • Able to work to deadlines and manage multiple tasks
  • Thorough with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident communicator
  • Strong teamwork mentality
  • Flexible in regards to working hours (hours may need to be changed to cover month end / bank holidays / year end or as required due to business needs)
  • Previous experience in a similar role, AAT qualification (or equivalent) advantageous
