Hours: Full Time – 37.5 (flexibility required)
Salary: Dependant on skills & competencies (salaried)
Reports to: Supply Chain Manager

Job Background:

The Materials Manager will be responsible for the performance of raw materials, packaging and WIP items against our standards within all departments. They will also be responsible for ensuring all variances are investigated and information provided back to section managers, and senior production manager. Measuring and maintaining a plan for the effectiveness of the improvements against set KPIs and material variance will also be a key task of this role.

Role Summary:

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • The generation, analysis and issuing of customer reports on material usage to capture yield figures and ensure traceability
  • Manage weekly and monthly stock counts. Produce and analyse reports, conduct investigations into variances, establish root cause and corrective and preventative actions and address any discrepancies
  • Agree and monitor material variance targets with section managers and work in partnership to achieve these
  • Investigate and improve internal material movement processes in conjunction with MRP system utilisation and process creation
  • To be proficient in gamme (BOM) maintenance – to include creating, verifying and maintaining new gammes as necessary
  • To capture all required information that will allow for Inward processing control for customs declarations
  • Work closely with other departments, such as Finance, IT, Production and Engineering to map out all materials management workflows and locations – identifying opportunities to remove waste and improve efficiencies
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with other departments to ensure processes and procedures run smoothly
  • Leading the communication and reporting of all material movements and variances to the business in conjunction with the company accountant
  • Produce regular slow-moving stock reports to work with the purchasing, sales and NPD teams, to drive down write-off and obsolescence

About the Person

We are looking for someone with the following personal attributes, skills and competencies:

Essential

  • Advanced Excel skills – Pivot Tables, Macros, advanced formulas
  • Previous experience in a materials management role
  • Previous experience in a complex food manufacturing environment
  • MS Office skills
  • Able to analyse data – collect, analyse and interpret to make informed decisions and drive actions
  • Competent in business systems / MRP systems
  • Excellent planning, organisation and prioritising skills
  • Ability to drive improvement and deliver business results
  • Ability to work in a cross functional team including, but not limited to, Purchasing / NPD / Engineering / Logistics / Quality and Manufacturing

Desirable

  • Qualification in a food science based subject
  • AS400 experience
  • Experience of customer / supplier interaction
  • People management experience
